DIY: Bookmarks

Bookmarks are great for marking what page you're reading. Instead of buying bookmarks, why not personalize it. It's also a good gift idea for those who love to read.

This craft is not difficult at all. It's also great for kids with a little supervision.

Supplies:
Construction paper
Colored card stock (Optional - Good for background)
Scissors
Glue stick
Black ink pen
Yarn
Lamenation machine (Head to Kinkos if you don't own one)
Personal paper trimmer/cutter
Hole puncher

OPTION 1

Step 1: Measure.
It is entirely up to you how big or small you want the bookmark to be. Just keep in mind that the bookmarks will be lamenated when they're finished, so this will add to the size.

I believe my measurements were 2 inches by 7 inches.

Step 2: Decorate!
Feel free to decorate however you like. Add a background, cut out words, pictures, it's all up to you.

Be sure not to glue anything just yet!

Step 3: Arrange.
It's always good to know where you want to pieces the pieces to be. You don't want to be removing already glued pieces. It won't look presentable.

Step 4: Glue!
Once you've got all the pieces in place, it's time to glue!

Have a piece of scratch paper that you might have used to cut something out. Use this when you are gluing. It makes less of a mess.

Step 5: Lamenate
This can be optional, but I want to make these bookmarks last longer.

Head over to Kinkos or a store that has a lamenating machine. At Kinkos, tell them that you would like to lamenate your bookmarks. They'll give you lamenating sheets and a folder to place in when you run it through the machine. They will explain how to use the lamenating machine.

Once you are finished, let it sit in the folder for a minute or so. It can be a little hot.

Step 6: Cut!
If there is a paper cutter available at Kinkos, use it. I didn't use it because it wasn't cutting nicely.

If you own a personal paper trimmer/cutter, use this to trim the lamenated bookmarks.

Warning! Once you're finished cutting them, the edges will be sharp! I used scissors to smooth the edges by cutting out a curve.

Step 7: Hole punch
If you want the bookmark to have a little something more, add a string of yarn.

And you're finished!

OPTION 2

An even more easier bookmark would be to just print out a picture online, glue it on cardstock, cut it out, lamenate it and cut it out again. Don't for get to use a hole puncher to make a hole for a piece of yarn.

Here are my finished results:

I made these for my boyfriend. I bought him the Supernatural books (the TV show) for Christmas and he needed something to mark what page he was on. I didn't want to just buy one because I love to make things and so I made him bookmarks!

Enjoy! :3
