My First Sewing Machine

Since the beginning of this year, I've been wanting to learn how to use a sewing machine. I was first inspired by learning how to make off the should t-shirts that are simply done by cutting off the collar of a pre-owned shirt. I then started watching Youtube videos from ThreadBanger, SecretLifeOfaBioNerd, and MsIselle. I love the clothing they make and it's very inspirational. Some of their tutorials are not for beginners, but I do intend to learn from videos that are for newbies like me.

2 months ago, I decided to take out my mom's old sewing machine that was sitting in the garage. It's a Singer 6234. It was fine when we first tested it, but then the thread started getting caught in the bobbin holder! It was very frustrating. I took it to Sew Hut, but they said the machine was running fine, no timing issues and that I just had to replace the broken slide plate. I did replace it, but nothing changed! I didn't want to waste my time trying to find out what was wrong with it and in the long run, waste lots of money. I really wanted to buy a new machine.

It's an old machine. It was a used sewing machine from my mom's friend (it was before I was born) and it didn't come with a user's manual!

My mom told me about a sale for sewing machines going on at Target, so I decided to look up reviews for it. They had a Singer Tradition 2250 portable sewing machine on sale for approximately $69. It had mixed reviews so I decided not to get it.

With a lot research on beginner sewing machines, I finally made my decision. I purchased a Brother 10-Stitch Portable Sewing Machine, LS-2125i! I am so excited to learn how to sew. I can't wait 'til it comes in. I will have to pick it up at Walmart in a week or so, but hopefully sooner.

I just hope I won't have any problems with it because from reading reviews, people have reported about the thread getting caught in the bobbin holder. I think I'll go nuts if that happens! Plus, it look way less complicated than the Singer!

I will be making posts on my journey of learning how to sew!

If anyone has any tips for a beginner, please let me know! Thanks! :]
