I just started working on this project around lunch time and finished around 8pm. Of course I took breaks - eating, using the bathroom, watching TV and browsing the web. I haven't eaten dinner yet! D: I'll have to rummage through my fridge to find something to eat!
Today was a hot day in San Diego. So using an iron made it even hotter! Not cool. Despite the hot weather and hot iron, I finally finished the apron!
This apron is a present for my boyfriend whose birthday is coming up. He loves to cook and sometimes while cooking, oil will splash onto his clothes, ruining it. He gets annoyed over this. So this is a good solution for his problem. :3
In order to make this apron you will need:
Sewing machine + thread
Fabric of your choice
[I bought mine at Yardage Town. This is my first time actually looking for fabric that's not linen or a pillowcase! I felt a little overwhelmed. I just ended up buying fabric that's already cut - some section called crafter's fabric. >.< I don't how much I would need. I'm bad with measurements.]
[NOTE: I did not print this image out. Instead I used the measurements given and traced the measurements on the fabric with chalk.]
Optional materials:
Measuring tape/stick
Tailor's chalk/Crayola chalk
I love the idea of using Crayola chalk. It's cheap and there's plenty of it. Kudos to Secretlifeofabionerd from Youtube! Check out her videos. She inspires me to sew :].
You'll also need to watch this video from Threadbanger. Threadbanger also inspires me to sew. Also check them out. They have some pretty cool DIY projects.
The video says it'll take approximately 2 hours, but this is not the case for me. It took awhile for me because I'm still a newbie (I also took breaks~!) and I decided to sew my boyfriend's gamer name onto the apron. I think this is called monogram or monogramming?
Sadly, I didn't get to take pictures of the process of making my apron. The video from Threadbanger is pretty simple and straightforward.
Here is the finished look:
And here is the apron after the monogramming and washing:
I'm happy the way everything turned out. :]
If you do come across a problem, please don't hesitate to ask help from me. I'm still new to sewing, but I'll try my best to help. :]
